Tomato Bredie With Lamb Shank

A bredie is a stew of meat and a vegetable and there are many types of bredie named for various featured vegetables.

In our home, tomato bredie is a tomato based stew made with lamb or sometimes beef. Potatoes, onions and, of course tomatoes are necessary. My mum tells us that our grandmother used to serve tomato bredie with long macaroni and we had a customer say she likes hers with mashed potato. Yum!

More often, though, it is served with fluffy rice, as we do at Locomotive Station.
