Koeksisters are cinnamon yeast doughnuts served warm with coconut sprinkled on top.They originated in Cape Town, South Africa in the Cape Malay community but are enjoyed by all, especially on a weekend morning, for breakfast.CONFUSION AND CONTROVERSYTo make things confusing South Africans have another dessert called koeksister. Unhelpful.It’s also delicious but not the same.The alternate koeksister is not served hot or made with yeast, like a doughnut. It contains no cinnamon. It is a plaited dessert.
